This student dormitory at CCU can house up to 330 students and serves as the cornerstone for the residential quadrant of the campus. The five-story, 110,000-sq-ft building is divided into lounges, common areas and living units, including apartments and studios. Construction was completed in just 15 months on an active campus.
The work required crews to tap seamlessly into the main sewer line without interrupting campus operations. The team coordinated with Prescient, the prefabricated structural framing option, early in the process to ensure the design team could work around constraints and that MEP design was fully coordinated with the truss system. Crews used two cranes to install the prefabricated structural framing, which included a first-time use of gypcrete on metal decking.
CCU has strict architectural guidelines for a cohesive campus look, requiring careful planning and meticulous installation of the exterior skin and stone masonry to ensure that the finished product complements the look of other buildings on campus.
