This renovation project at Hill Air Force Base converted an aircraft repair shop into a classified operations and training vault with offices and meeting spaces. The project adhered to high-performance and sustainable building principles and involved construction of secure walls, ceilings, doors and hardware for the classified vault area, along with special wiring for information technology and equipment, white-noise sound generators, rotating blue lights and intrusion-detection systems. A complex communication package also was included for the F-35A weapons system housed in the building.
The project took place on a congested site with ongoing military and construction operations. The contractor planned for traffic congestion, difficult site access and security measures and avoided obstructions to neighboring buildings and other Air Force units located inside different areas of the building.
