Surrounded by city streets in downtown Miami, JTM Construction Group completed a massive upgrade to facilities, MEPS, technical systems security and landscaping at the 1-million-sq-ft Miami MI1 data center. The contractor completely renovated the first floor, including the security lobby and corporate suites. The team also created a new corporate lounge and conference center. On the second floor, crews created a customer area, additional colocation cabinets and operations offices. Crews worked in an occupied space, complete with clients in the colocation portion of the facility. The team had to focus on delivery of all power, security and other services with no downtime. The team installed a large amount of MEPS equipment with full backup/redundancy and complete commissioning, including installation of three 3-MW power blocks for electrical distribution and 14 high-efficiency rooftop chillers. The six-story structure is built to withstand a Category 5 hurricane as well as floodwater in excess of 100-year storm levels. The floors are raised, with equipment floors set at 32 ft above sea level.
