Utilizing a design-build delivery method, the $38-million expansion and renovation of the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in downtown West Palm Beach was broken into 12 phases and completed over an 18-month schedule. The expansion features a new valet parking garage and expansion of the Dreyfoos Hall Lobby as well as upgrades to the west drop-off canopy, Cohen Pavilion canopy and a brand-new valet canopy. The existing lobby was expanded outward and had to replicate the curving curtain wall exterior. Due to the fast-tracked project schedule, the team had to release the curtain wall glass package prior to installing the new exterior steel beams. The team utilized laser scanning to create as-builts for the building and coordinate those scans with the BIM model and survey. The center remained operational throughout the project’s duration. Crews were able to perform work on the two-city-block campus—which neighbors a high school, condominium complex, restaurants and shops—with minimal disruptions.
