Alabama
The state of Alabama is seeking expressions of interest from qualified developer teams to provide all scope, including land, utilities and furniture, fixtures and equipment, for three turnkey build-to-suit prisons to be leased to the Alabama Dept. of Corrections. Facilities 1 and 3 will be almost identical. Facility 2 will be larger and will centralize ADOC’s special services (medical, mental health, aged care and inmate reception) into one facility. Facility 2 will be located in the central part of the state. Hoar Program Management is the program manager. Construction of the estimated $900-million project is expected to begin by December 2022. Florida
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is planning to deepen and widen Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale. The project entails dredging the outer entrance channel to a depth of 56 ft, extending the channel by 2,200 ft to the east and widening the outer portion of the cut from 500 ft to 800 ft. The project also includes dredging the inner entrance channel, middle turning basin, Southport access channel and Port Everglades berthing areas to a depth of 49 ft. The total quantity to be dredged from the federal channel is approximately 5.3 million cu yd and from the berthing areas is approximately 300,000 cu yd. The project is valued at $389 million. Florida
The South Florida Water Management District is planning to carry out the Loxahatchee River Watershed Restoration project. It will entail constructing a 9,500-acre-ft reservoir augmented with four aquifer storage recovery wells, improvements to culverts and a new operable weir on Cypress Creek Canal. In addition, the project includes plugging ditches to improve sheet flow in the Nine Gems tract and a flow-through marsh to capture canal and sheet flow from the west. Georgia

North Carolina
Avangrid Renewables Inc. is planning to construct the Kitty Hawk Wind Farm 27 miles from the Outer Banks in the 122,405-acre Kitty Hawk Wind Energy Area. Construction of the first 800-MW phase is expected to start in 2024. The wind farm’s ultimate capacity is expected to reach 2,500 MW. The project is valued at $450 million. South Carolina
Waccamaw Community Hospital is planning to build the Tidelands Health Carolina Bays Hospital in Myrtle Beach.
