Nebraska Corbion is planning to expand its lactic acid plant in Blair. The project scope includes construction and renovation of building space; installation of reactors, process vessels, evaporators, filter presses, microbial fermentation and purification equipment; and purchase and installation of storage tanks and process piping. Nevada Albemarle Corporation is planning to expand production capacity at its lithium extraction site in Silver Peak. The project scope includes construction of equipment foundations; purchase and erection of structural steel; and purchase and installation of brine storage tanks and extraction, separation, purification, evaporation, stripping and condensing equipment. The project will increase production capacity from five metric kilotons to 10 metric kilotons of lithium carbonate equivalent per year, and evaluate new technologies for lithium production from clay resources in the area. A firm will be selected from a predefined shortlist of three to provide design engineering or engineering, procurement and construction services. A construction schedule is being developed; the project is expected to be complete by 2025. The estimated EPC cost is between $30 million and $50 million. South Dakota Schwan’s Company and its affiliate CJ Food USA are planning to construct an Asian foods production and distribution facility on a 140-acre site at Foundation Park in Sioux Falls. The project scope includes design and construction of a 700,000-sq-ft building; and purchase and installation of conveyors, ingredient storage and dispensing, mixing, cooking, frying, freezing and automated packaging equipment and dock equipment for multiple loading docks. Building construction is expected to begin in 2022. Schwan’s and CJ Food USA, subsidiaries of South Korea-based CJ CheilJedang, produce egg rolls, rangoons, wontons, pot stickers, tempura, sauces, fried rice, noodles, soups and stir-fry kits for retail and food service industries.
