Louisiana The Bayou Lafourche Fresh Water District is planning to construct a pumping facility in Donaldsville. The facility will convey 1,500 cu ft per second of freshwater from the Mississippi River to Bayou Lafourche. This project is a component of the Mississippi River Reintroduction into Bayou Lafourche Project, which is intended to improve water quality within Bayou Lafourche that was worsened by Hurricane Gustav in 2008. Maryland AquaCon, a Norwegian aquaculture firm, is partnering with the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology and the University of Maryland in planning to construct a Salmon Farm Aquaculture Facility in Cambridge. Unlike typical aquaculture operations that employ fish pens, this facility will employ technology that recirculates water through large systems of tanks on land. The facility, about the size of 34 football fields, will be capable of producing 15,000 tons of fish per year. The project is valued at $300 million. Michigan Gratiot Acquisition Partners LLC is planning to build The Exchange, a mixed-use building, at the intersection of Gratiot Avenue, Brush Street and Macomb Street in Detroit. The 16-story building will contain 153 apartments, 12 condominiums, and retail and office space on the ground floor. It is being designed by Ghafari and Parini, and LIFTbuild, a Barton Malow Co. subsidiary, has been chosen as the general contractor. Wyoming The city of Torrington is planning to make improvements to its wastewater treatment plant to solve discharge permit compliance problems for biochemical oxygen demand and ammonia.
