In partnership with Arizona State University, McCarthy Building Cos. is constructing a 2,500-sq-ft pedestrian bridge designed by Architekton and Grimshaw that connects the new Interdisciplinary Science and Technology Building 7 (ISTB7) to the Novus Innovation Corridor across University Drive in Tempe, Ariz. The 210,000-lb bridge will be 250 ft long and 16 ft wide and feature a 138,000-lb steel fin shade structure and night lighting to increase visibility.
Using his iPhone, Nulliner took this shot of the first of three deck concrete placements. “It required a team of approximately 30 people—including carpenters, place and finish crew and staff—for the concrete pour. The pour, which was done during nighttime hours, had to be one contiguous pour from ISTB7 to the garage,” he says.
The project is expected to be complete in December.
