This $394,498 project connects two hiking trails in the park with a pier over the marsh so that visitors can see and interact with the many species living there. At 1,005 ft, the pier is the largest ever constructed over a marsh in Mississippi and the only one to use Thruflow decking, which allows light to penetrate the water, minimizing impacts on aquatic vegetation.

The team worked during the pandemic and hurricane season, and suffered a direct hit from Category 3 Hurricane Zeta. And when a specified solar light could not be delivered, the team worked together to identify a solution that allowed the project to be completed $16,000 under budget in February 2021.
