Bougher says new federal infrastructure funding will boost business, though he notes that funding comes with a caveat that the state has to match the federal funds. “This will be a hurdle to get over in Pennsylvania, as I’m sure it will in many other states,” Bougher says. “But in general, in the Harrisburg area—and the rest of the state—we should see a nice increase in funding for highways and bridges.”
He says there are several major highway projects in design or under construction that will reduce congestion somewhat. Bougher also points to “construction/enhancement projects” at or near the Harrisburg International Airport, including a new Amtrak station in Middletown.
Bougher says the area’s housing market “remains robust, with more than 40 new developments underway in one phase or another.”
He says the state’s transportation sector has done well in mitigating the impacts of COVID-19, working with the Pennsylvania Dept. of Transportation and Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission in determining how to keep projects moving safely during the pandemic.
