Tru Development is planning to develop KAKTUSlife@The Curve, a mixed-use residential complex at 8030 W. Maule Ave. in Las Vegas. The complex will encompass eight five-story buildings, totaling 926,042 sq ft and 619 apartments, underground parking garages and outdoor swimming pools. It is being designed by Ed Vance & Associates, and Martin Harris Construction Co. has been chosen as the general contractor. The project is valued at $200 million. PENNSYLVANIA
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is planning to clean up a nuclear waste dump in Parks Township. From 1961 to 1970, 33,000 cu yd of radioactive and non-radioactive wastes from the Nuclear Materials and Equipment Corp. were buried in trenches on a 44-acre site known as the Shallow Land Disposal Area. BWX Technologies is the current owner of the site. Excavation is expected to start in 2024 and take four years. Monitoring wells show no migration of nuclear contaminants from the site. At the end of the cleanup the site will be turned over to BWXT and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for decommissioning. Jacobs Technology has been selected as the remediation contractor and will work with eight subcontractors. The project is valued at $500 million. WISCONSIN
The Wisconsin Dept. of Transportation is planning to carry out the Muskego Yard Freight Rail Bypass Project in Milwaukee. The project entails construction of grade-separated crossings and a new double-track mainline through Muskego Yard that will become the primary route for freight traffic traveling though Milwaukee. It will also involve installing a centralized traffic control system to allow signals to automatically change in response to track occupancy and remote control. The project includes the rehabilitation of the 100-plus year-old structure across Burnham Canal and the Menomonee Valley River to accommodate higher loading capacity and speed.
