Keenan Driscoll has been hired to serve as the next chief financial officer for Sundt Construction in Phoenix. He also will join the Sundt Cos.’ board of directors. To help ensure a smooth transition, Driscoll will work closely with the company’s longtime chief financial officer, Kevin Burnett, who will remain with the company through April before retiring. Driscoll joins Sundt after more than 11 years with AECOM.
Specialized Services Co., an Arizona-based underground construction company, has named 30-year company veteran Arvid Veidmark III as its new president. Marcia Veidmark, who has served for more than 21 years as the firm’s president, is taking on the role of CEO and chairman of the board.
McCarthy Building Cos. in Phoenix has promoted Kristine Newman to chief financial officer. Prior to assuming this role, Newman served as executive vice president. She replaces CFO Doug Audiffred, who is retiring. Newman joined McCarthy in 2005.
McCarthy also promoted Miranda Ruff to project manager in its Las Vegas office. She joined McCarthy as an intern in 2016 and most recently served as an assistant project manager.
Michael A. Banta has joined Rick Engineering Co. as a survey manager. He has 30 years of experience as a registered professional surveyor in Arizona, Virginia and Nevada, most recently as survey services leader at Westwood in Phoenix.
Universal Engineering Sciences in Las Vegas has appointed Trent Anderson as Western division president. He most recently served as a regional vice president at Professional Service Industries Inc. With this appointment, James Bristow is stepping into the role of managing partner. Bristow served as Western division president since NOVA Geotechnical & Inspection Services joined UES in May 2020.
Sunstate Equipment has appointed Bob Krause as chief operations officer. He will lead the firm’s general rental and trench division operations, sales and marketing, and business excellence. Krause joined Sunstate Equipment in 2020 as vice president of business excellence.
Big-D has promoted Laura Shivers to vice president of Johnson Carlier, an Arizona-based subsidiary of Big-D Cos. Beginning her career at Johnson Carlier in August 2020, Shivers was hired as director of business strategy.
Studio Southwest Architects, Albuquerque, has promoted Laura B. Anderson to principal. Anderson has been working as a senior architect at Studio SW for four years. She manages the firm’s city of Albuquerque on-call contract and the Albuquerque BioPark Zoo’s Australia exhibit team, which is currently under construction.
In addition, Robert Maze was promoted to associate. Maze joined Studio SW as a senior architect in 2018 after operating his private practice for 17 years. His experience includes the design of commercial, residential and hospitality projects in the Southwest.
Weitz announced three promotions at its Southwest office in Phoenix.
Boe Evanson and Andrew Klem were both promoted from senior project manager to project executive. Evanson and Klem both are part of the Weitz Southwest office’s management team, responsible for overseeing construction operations while providing leadership and management direction. Bill Hornaday was promoted from project manager II to senior project manager.
