Operations Vice President
Messer Construction Co.
“This biggest buzz is Intel entering the central Ohio market to build a series of fabrication facilities on 3,000 acres northeast of Columbus,” Schmidt says. “Over time, an influx of suppliers and supporting businesses are likely to spring up as well.”
Various market sectors are driving construction growth.
“The construction industry is very busy throughout Columbus and central Ohio, which has a good mix of manufacturing and service companies and strong population growth,” Schmidt says.
Growth is not without challenges.
“With so much activity across market segments such as health care, higher education, commercial and industrial, there is a strain on the construction workforce. Recruiting talent is definitely top of mind. Also, given supply chain dynamics, having in-house procurement and preconstruction expertise is more valuable than ever,” Schmidt says.
“Some projects our company is working on include Ohio Health Pickerington Methodist Hospital, Nationwide Children’s Hospital Livingston Orthopedic and Surgery Center and Eldorado Gaming Scioto Downs Grandstand,” he says.
