“There are a lot of big projects underway and a few upcoming that will start fairly soon,” Cullen says. “The Couture Building [a 44-story skyscraper] and Wisconsin Center District [the largest construction project in Wisconsin] are transformative for the downtown area. Milwaukee Tool is just about to wrap up [an office building], and Fiserv’s headquarters at HUB640 just kicked off. The Ascent building recently finished for mixed-use. Northwestern Mutual and Microsoft have announced two large-scale renovation and data center projects. 

“Deer District [a sports/entertainment district] continues to bring more development as they are finishing the Trade Hotel and soon Live Nation will develop an entertainment venue. You will [also] see more multifamily or a hotel being built shortly,” he adds. “With all of these large projects going on, the labor supply is a big concern. We need to focus on quality labor and tradesmen to work our jobsites. There are always going to be a number of changes throughout the years, and it’s how you position yourself for them [that determines success].”
