More than 300 state and city dignitaries, educators and industry leaders and supporters attended an open house to celebrate the revamped 27,000-sq-ft Construction Education Foundation (CEF) Training Center in Denver. Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (front, second from right)) received a tour of the building. The center includes 10 classrooms, five construction labs and an outdoor area. The CEF was founded in 1999 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to construction industry workforce development in Colorado. Programs include no-cost vocational training for high school students, OSHA training, a two-year rough carpentry apprenticeship program and a sustainable building certificate curriculum.

The Sundt Foundation recently awarded $10,000 in grants to two Salt Lake City charities—the Wolf Creek Foundation and the Salt Lake Education Foundation. The Sundt Foundation awards quarterly grants to local Salt Lake City charities selected through an application and review process led by a committee of local Sundt employee-owners. Wolf Creek Foundation received $5,000 for its support of military families. Through a partnership with Hill Air Force Base, the Wolf Creek Foundation sponsors weekend retreats twice a year that allow military families to relax, reconnect and develop much-needed skills that help service members and their families cope with the stress of deployments. The grant will help the charity provide meals, lodging and entertainment, along with programming for adults and children. The Salt Lake Education Foundation was awarded $5,000 in support of its work in building bridges between schools and community agencies and organizations. The foundation engages students and families in meaningful and culturally appropriate ways and works with the district to ensure that “students leave our schools socially aware, culturally sensitive and as economically viable citizens of our community.”
