AES Global Renewables is considering constructing a battery energy storage system (BESS) at the site of its recently shuttered coal-fired power plant on the Island of Oahu, and a green hydrogen plant at an unselected site in Hawaii. The BESS project scope includes construction of equipment foundations and purchase and installation of containerized battery units, converters and switchgear. The hydrogen plant scope of work includes construction of building space and purchase and installation of electrolysers, gas storage tanks and compressors. trū Shrimp is planning to construct a shrimp production and processing facility at the Lake View Industrial Park in Madison. The Bay Harbor facility project scope includes construction of building space and purchase and installation of growing tanks, conveying, ingredient storage and dispensing, and cleaning, mixing and cooking equipment. The facility will have an annual production capacity of 1.8 million lb of shrimp, over 4,700 kg of chitosan, and 600,000 lb of pet food ingredients. ISG is providing design engineering services and Miron Construction Co. has been selected as the general contractor. Construction is expected to begin in 2024. WASHINGTON

Myno Carbon Corp., a start-up company, is planning to construct a biochar plant at Avista Utilities’ Kettle Falls Biomass Generating Station site in Kettle Falls. The project scope includes design and construction of a building and purchase and installation of wood waste handling, screening, grinding, drying systems, pyrolysis reactors, a steam boiler, and biochar packaging and loadout equipment. The plant will have the capacity to process 183,000 tons of timber waste per year to produce 40,000 tons of biochar per year and provide 18 MW of steam to Avista’s plant. A construction schedule will be developed following permitting approvals; the plant is expected to be completed in mid-2025. The estimated EPC cost is $100 million.
