ALASKA

QSH Parent Holdco LLC is planning to carry out the Nome-to-Homer Express Route broadband project. The project will serve two purposes. First, it will extend the existing network and complete a ring, connecting a previously constructed network in Fairbanks to Nome, via Prudhoe Bay, Point Hope, to this project’s route from Nome to Homer, and leased facility from Homer to Fairbanks, resulting in a redundant survivable ring connection to various cable systems toward the lower 48 states. And secondly, it will provide connectivity along the newly constructed route at Emmonak, Naknek, King Salmon, Igiugig, and Homer. Fifty-five percent of the project area is measured as unserved. ALASKA

The city of Unalaska, on Unalaska Island in the Aleutians, is planning to carry out the Captains Bay Road paving project. The project entails laying asphalt on the existing 1.4-mile-long gravel road between Airport Beach Road and the south end of the Westward Seafoods Complex, and includes widening the road to 13-ft lanes with 2-ft shoulders, various areas of embankment reconstruction and a new 6-ft-wide paved separated multi-use path. CALIFORNIA

Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria are planning to expand the Graton Resort & Casino in Rohnert Park. The project entails expanding the casino floor area by 144,000 sq ft and building a new five-story, 221-room hotel wing, a new five-level parking structure, a 3,500-seat theater, a rooftop restaurant and an additional water tank. It is being designed by Bergman Walls Associates Ltd., and SMC Construction has been chosen as the general contractor. CALIFORNIA

The Judicial Council of California is planning to build a new courthouse in Fresno, at a site to be determined. The 413,000-sq-ft building will contain 36 courtrooms. It is being designed by Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum Inc. Construction is expected to start in December 2025 and be completed by January 2031. The project is valued at $749.4 million. CALIFORNIA

The Sacramento Zoological Society and the city of Elk Grove are planning to build a new Sacramento Zoo on a 65-acre site in south Elk Grove at the northwest intersection of Kammerer Road and Lotz Parkway. The Zoological Society hired a design firm, shr Studios, that specializes in zoological parks to prepare the conceptual plan. The plan, issued in 2022, depicts a multiphased, modern zoo featuring expansive savannas where African wildlife will roam and guests will be immersed in the animals’ surroundings. CALIFORNIA

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), Mission Economic Development Agency, Young Community Developers Inc., Plenary Group and Presidio Development Partners LLC are planning the SFMTA Potrero Facility Redevelopment Housing Project in San Francisco. The project entails expanding and modernizing the Potrero Yard Muni Bus Maintenance Facility at 2500 Mariposa St. by replacing it with a three-story bus garage and 575 apartments in the rest of the 13-story, 1.19-million-sq-ft building above it. It will include 773 bicycle parking spaces but no car parking. The design firms are SiteLAB Urban Studio and Ibi Group. The project is valued at $252 million. Hospital Corp. of America is planning to expand Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose. The project includes building an eight-story, 200,000-sq-ft medical office building and two six-story parking structures. It is being designed by Perkins + Will Architects. CALIFORNIA

Spur Capital Partners and IQHQ are planning to build the Gilman Gateway Life Science Campus in Berkeley. The project entails eight buildings, ranging between three and six stories, and totaling 900,000 sq ft. It will occupy a ten-acre site at 640 Gilman St., part of which was the former Pacific Steel Casting and the Berkeley Forge and Tools sites. Pacific Steel filed for bankruptcy in 2018, and the forge is in the process of closing operations. The target start date is August 2024. The project is valued at $640 million. CALIFORNIA

Controlled Thermal Resources is planning to construct the Hell’s Kitchen Geothermal Lithium Extraction Plant in Niland. The project entails constructing a geothermal power facility (HKP1) producing up to 49.9 MW and commercial lithium hydroxide production plant (HKL1). It will involve construction of well pads and injection wells; construction of pipelines between HKP1 and HKL1 to facilitate the movement of brine between the facilities; construction and operation of a mineral-extraction facility to extract lithium hydroxide, silica, bulk sulfide and polymetallic products from the geothermal brine; construction and operation of minerals handling and packaging facilities; construction of ingress and egress to the project site from Davis Road; paving of two miles of Davis Road from McDonald Road to Noffsinger Road; and construction and operation of a 230-kV gen-tie line and collocated power line. OREGON

The city of Hillsboro and Hillsboro Hops, a minor league baseball team affiliated with the Arizona Diamondbacks, are planning to build a ballpark for the Hops within the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex. The stadium will seat about 6,000 for baseball and 7,000 for concerts and other events. Architects Populous and SRG Partnership have been selected, and Mortenson has been chosen as the general contractor. Construction is expected to start in October 2023 and be completed by July 2025. OREGON

Portland General Electric and Restorcap LLC are planning to construct a battery energy storage facility and transmission line. The project involves constructing a 200- to 800-MW battery energy storage facility on the former Time Oil site, along with a 230-kV transmission line to Portland General Electric’s Rivergate Substation. Eolian has been selected as the general contractor. Construction is expected to start in December 2023. The project is valued at $275 million. OREGON

The Lake Oswego School District is planning to build a replacement of Lake Oswego Middle School. The project entails constructing two two-story buildings totaling 140,000 sq ft and an outdoor covered play area. It is being designed by BRIC Architecture Inc., and CBRE Heery Inc. has been chosen as the project manager. Six prequalified general contractors have been selected, with bidding expected in the fall of 2023. The project is valued at $75 million. King County and Harborview Medical Center are planning to carry out a seismic upgrade and renovations of the medical center’s Center Tower.
