The city’s sustainability and resilience efforts “have emerged as standout trends shaping the design and construction of projects spanning sectors such as health care and life sciences, transportation infrastructure and commercial buildings,” Szatkowski says.
As one example, the nearly complete East Midtown Greenway project will “ensure the longevity of the greenspace,” he says. “Engineered soil in Silva Cells is being used along the project to collect stormwater and support the growth of newly planted trees.”
The slowing market and “economic uncertainties” are not preventing a “substantial influx of projects” from moving forward in sectors such as health care and higher education, Szatkowski says.
“The largest and most prominent health care providers in the city are actively expanding existing facilities, establishing new locations and exploring new options and avenues for growth,” he says, noting there’s a “multitude” of ongoing higher education and other projects that are “anticipated to come online throughout the balance of 2023 and heading into 2024.”
