As the only research-based grief organization solely committed to supporting grieving children and their families in the Denver area, Judi’s House/JAG Institute provides a critical service to Coloradans, where one in 14 children will experience the death of a parent or sibling by the age of 18.
After outgrowing its previous facility, the client sought a new space to expand its ability to help grieving families. The 26,245-sq-ft building provides seven therapeutic garden spaces, 10 family therapy rooms, six assessment therapy rooms, four play-based therapy rooms, a large kitchen/dining area, conference rooms and administrative offices.
The project is entirely supported through philanthropic donations, with the contractor and its team of subcontractors donating 12% of costs and a total $1.25 million in accepted value engineering alternatives.
Securing long-lead equipment on site and completing installations in time to meet the fast-tracked schedule posed some challenges. But the team collaborated to resolve more than 20 supply chain delays and disruptions to build this grief education and research facility in less than 12 months. The project completed in July 2022.
