This project introduced a modular construction approach that accelerated the construction timeline and set a precedent for the owner’s future projects. A design-build delivery connected stakeholders early as well, helping ensure quality and an on-time finish in December 2022.
Despite its smaller size, the Helena Temple achieved the church’s aesthetic requirements with a blend of Romanesque and Art Deco styles. However, ensuring safety of the project’s more specialized components during cross-country shipping required particular attention. For example, the contractor conducted rigorous testing and chose porcelain tile floors instead of the all-stone floors the church traditionally used, which prevented costly cracking and damage during shipping. Meticulous planning and careful supervision also ensured seamless integration of custom elements and materials such as Portuguese stone, quarter-sawn cherry wood and Turkish stone, which required specialized equipment for transportation and placement. An innovative approach to decorative painting also helped save time and money. Instead of painting on site, the team printed color on canvas and shipped it to the site for installation.
