ALASKA
Huna Totem, an Alaska Native village corporation, is planning to build the Aak’w Landing waterfront development on a 2.9-acre site at Whittier Street and Egan Drive in Juneau. It will include a new cruise ship dock, a culture and science center, retail space and underground parking. The 40,000-sq-ft culture and science center will be built with help from Sealaska Heritage Institute and Goldbelt, another Alaska Native urban corporation. ALASKA
The city of Unalaska is planning to carry out the Captains Bay Road improvement project on a 1.4-mile-long segment between Airport Beach Road and the south end of the Westward Seafoods Complex. Work on the existing gravel road will include widening the road to 13-ft lanes with 2 ft shoulders, base and various areas of embankment reconstruction, new asphalt pavement and a new 6-ft paved separated multi-use path and selective replacement of storm drain pipes and inlet structures. CALIFORNIA
Hydro Green Energy LLC is proposing to develop the Fort Ross Hydropower/Pumped Storage Facility in Fort Ross. It will consist of a reservoir 1,500 ft uphill from the ocean and a 12,000-ft-long conduit leading to a 250-ft-long underground concrete powerhouse containing five pump turbines. It will have a generating capacity of 1,250 MW. Ocean water will be pumped uphill to the reservoir and released at times when energy is needed. A breakwater will dissipate the impact of the released water. Hydro Green has applied for a preliminary permit to study the feasibility of the project, including analysis of environmental impacts, water quality, water rights and other issues. If issued, it would give Hydro Green the priority right to apply for a federal license to build the project. The project is valued at $2.4 billion. ACD-TI Oakley LLC is planning to build the Grand Cypress Preserve residential development in Oakley. The 1,235-acre master-planned development will include 3,220 homes, 435,600 sq ft of commercial space, a school site and a 254-acre wildlife conservation habitat. SiFi Networks is planning to build Bakersfield FiberCity, a fiber optic network. The network will provide up to 10-gigabit broadband connectivity to residential customers and 100-gigabit connectivity to businesses. The project is valued at $300 million. Applied Materials plans to construct a research and development building and a parking structure at its campus in Sunnyvale. The 592,050-sq-ft, eight-story building will include a 180,000-sq-ft clean room and have a 653,082-sq-ft parking structure. The R&D building—the Equipment and Process Innovation and Commercialization (EPIC) Center—will be dedicated to collaborative semiconductor process technology and manufacturing equipment research and development. It is being designed by RMW Architecture & Interiors, and Hoffman Construction Co. of America has been selected as the general contractor. The City of Los Angeles Dept. of Water and Power is planning to construct the Mid-Valley Water Facility at 7600 N. Tyrone Ave. It will include 235,967 sq ft of buildings, 216,000 sq ft of above-ground parking and 180,168 sq ft of additional yard/expansion space on a 17.3-acre parcel. Project components include offices, a trunk line facility for water distribution and trunk line maintenance, a meter shop for water meter maintenance, a main line facility for water main maintenance, an emergency operations center, security facilities, supply chain facilities for warehouse storage, fleet services and compressed natural gas fueling. Project Valley Title LLC is planning to build Valley Title Commercial, a 20-story, twin-tower building with a five-level below-grade parking garage with 2,804 parking spaces. It will be located at 345 S. Second St. in San Jose. The building will have 1,319,340 sq ft of office space; up to 60,430 sq ft of retail and community space on the ground floor; and a total of 35,821 sq ft of outdoor space including landscaped terraces at the ground floor and on Levels 3 and 5, as well as balconies on Levels 2 through 20. The project includes demolition of existing buildings on the site. It is being designed by WRNS Studio. The project is valued at between $245 million and $255 million. OREGON
The Multnomah County Transportation Division has selected Burnside Bridge Partners to reconstruct the Burnside Bridge in Portland to give it seismic resiliency. BBP is a joint venture of Stacy and Wilbeck, Traylor Bros. and American Bridge Co. Erected in 1926, the bridge carries 44,000 vehicles, three bus lines and more than 2,000 pedestrians and bicyclists a day. The construction team is expected to begin demolition and construction in mid-2026. The new bridge is expected to open in spring 2031. The project is valued at $895 million. OREGON
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is currently evaluating submitted design-build proposals for Phase 2 of the Portland Veterans Administration Medical Center seismic retrofit and renovation project. The project entails designing and constructing a new multistory 297,000-sq-ft specialty care building 110 and a new structured parking building 111 with 449 net new parking spaces. The University of Washington and Bellwether Housing plan to build the Bellwether UW affordable housing project. The work involves constructing a 16-story, 220,000-sq-ft building with 240 apartments at 4201 Roosevelt Way NE in Seattle, just west of the campus. WASHINGTON
King County is planning to carry out the Chelan Avenue Combined Sewer Overflow project in Seattle. The work involves constructing a 4-million-gallon storage tank to control the Chelan Ave. Regulator Station overflow. During a storm, flow will be conveyed from the new diversion structure to the storage tank via the influent gravity pipe. After a storm, drain pumps would transfer stored combined sewage to the force main discharge maintenance hole via the drain force main when there was downstream capacity available.
