“This project represents opportunity for the Reno community and a big upgrade to the passenger experience for the traveling public.”

Two concourses will replace existing structures at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport by the end of the decade.
The joint venture project began preconstruction in 2023. The B concourse should finish in mid-2027 and the C concourse by fall 2029, says Duane Boreham, president of the aviation group for Q&D Construction. The original concourses will be demolished after each new concourse is completed, adds Doug Clough, project executive for Holder.
“The many improvements the airport is making will offer greater efficiency to both business and vacation travelers,” Boreham says.
Concrete, steel, metal panel or glass exterior skin and various interior finishes are the prominent materials to be used, Clough says. He adds that the architect, Gensler/Mead & Hunt, has focused the design on a blend of local scenery and contemporary amenities.
At peak construction, the joint venture will have 300-plus workers on both concourses. “A project of this magnitude will provide significant opportunity to our local subcontractors and suppliers. All of this will ultimately flow down to other construction support businesses, providing further opportunity to our community,” Boreham says.
He adds that the major challenge for the team will be minimizing impact to airport operations during construction while maintaining productivity.
Clough says: “This project represents opportunity for the Reno community and a big upgrade to the passenger experience for the traveling public.”
Daren Griffin, president/CEO of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority, says that the concourses continue the $1-billion MoreRNO Infrastructure Program. “[It’s] not just about adding new structures and updates to the airport. This program is a commitment to a more connected, convenient and forward-thinking future for our community.”
