“After years of sustained growth, it may sound like a broken record, but the Boise market continues to boom,” says Hammon. “Led by multifamily developments, contractors here continue to run at full capacity.”

According to the state’s largest commercial real estate firm, occupancy rates for most commercial sectors remain low and demand continues to rise.

“What makes Boise so special is a combination of population growth and investments from long-term area companies. This includes the $15-billion investment by Micron in a new computer chip manufacturing facility, multiple distribution centers and a state-of-the-art data center. On top of this private activity, [there are] billions of dollars of investment by the state in public works,” Hammon explains. “The main limitation on the industry’s potential remains the area’s continued struggle with workforce development.

“The Idaho AGC and our members are committed to recruiting more Idahoans into the trades, but the lack of qualified construction workers in the area remains a limiting factor,” he contends.
