Washington Dulles International Airport said it plans to open by late 2026 a $500-million Concourse E expansion that will accommodate United Airlines refreshed fleet of new widebody and mainline planes and feature feature 14 gates and a 40,000 sq-ft United Club. The 435,000-sq-ft project, a collaboration between the airline and the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, also is receiving funding from the federal infrastructure law.
One phase of a long-term multi-phase project for United's growth at Dulles that is part of its master plan, it will add direct and easy access to the airport Aerotrain station providing transport between the main terminal and other concourses. The terminal will include expansive gate seating, concessions and retail space.
"Washington Dulles International is a key economic engine for the National Capital Region, and United Airlines is our essential partner in the rapid and ongoing growth of the airport," Jack Potter, authority CEO, said in a statement. "United's commitment to Dulles – through its support of the new concourse, its long-term expansion plans, including new flights and destinations, investment in new training and technical facilities and the addition of thousands of local jobs—is a testament to the strength of our partnership in promoting regional economic growth and pursuing our mutual goal of providing world-class service to the traveling public."
United also recently started building a 20,000-sq-ft Inflight Training Center near the airport, set to open in 2025. The airline also is founding partner of Monumental Sports & Entertainment's upcoming transformation to help revitalize downtown Washington, D.C., sports and entertainment facilities.
