A W Edwards, an Australian subsidiary of Bouygues Construction, is well underway under a $258-million contract to deliver the $335-million redevelopment of Ryde Hospital for the Northern Sydney Local Health District in Australia. Silver Thomas Hanley is the lead architect.
Work began earlier this year on a new emergency department, expanded intensive care unit, theaters, an ambulatory care center, a pediatric short stay unit, more adult overnight inpatient beds and an expanded medical imaging facility.
“We are proud of ... contributing to improved access to quality healthcare for the residents of the region,” said Pierre-Eric Saint André, deputy CEO of France-based Bouygues, in a statement. The new hospital building is scheduled for completion in 2027.

The project includes a 430,560-sq-ft clinical building and parking garages. Work on the new main hospital entrance, demolition of existing buildings and landscaping will continue into 2028. Last year, HPAC served as the early-works contractor on the demolition of three buildings and site preparation.
The buildings will integrate with the existing campus, including the Graythwaite Rehabilitation Centre and Denistone House, a 146-year-old historic building. The project also includes new roads, urban spaces, landscaping and communications technology infrastructure.
To support the health district’s goal of becoming carbon-neutral by 2035, the project includes capacity for more than 100 photovoltaic cells, infrastructure for 18 electric vehicle charging stations, a green roof and fully integrated waste management facility.
