John Collier, Robert Graves, Joseph Helble and Charles Hutchinson of the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College in Dartmouth, N.H., will receive the National Academy of Engineering’s Bernard M. Gordon Prize for Innovation in Engineering and Technology Education for 2014, NAE said on Jan. 6.

The $500,000 annual award, which recognizes innovation in engineering and technology education, was awarded to the group for creating an integrated engineering program at the school from the undergraduate through doctorate levels to prepare students for engineering leadership.

The award recognizes the recipients' roles in creating the Dartmouth Engineering Entrepreneurship Program (DEEP), which integrates entrepreneurship and leadership training into all aspects of its curriculum, says NAE.

Hutchinson is a former Thayer school dean, while Helble now serves in that role. Collier is a professor of engineering innovation and Graves is senior professor for emerging technologies.

NAE says half of the prize will go to the Thayer school to support the DEEP program.

NAE's 2013 Gordon Prize went to Richard K. Miller, David V. Kerns Jr., and Sherra E. Kerns for "guiding the creation of Olin College and its student-centered approach to developing effective engineering leaders," said the academy. The college, founded in 1997, is located in Needham, Mass.
