Amquip Corp. has picked up a Terex Superlift 3800, a 715-ton crawler crane that Terex displayed at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2014 last month in Las Vegas. The deal punctuates a robust selling season for cranes in the weeks following the show. We organized our team of crawler experts, fleet managers and project principles to review all of the cranes available in the class, said Al Bove, COO of Trevose, Pa.-based AmQuip, in a statement. Our team unanimously decided that the 3800 was, overall, the best crane offered in this class. With a hook height of nearly 500 ft, the Terex Superlift 3800 took the title as the tallest crane installed in the history of CONEXPO. Sale prices were not disclosed, but, according to Terex, AmQuip bought the crane with all available options, including the luffing jib and counterweight wagon seen at the show. A wheeled counterweight wagon allows the crane to maneuver into the tight spaces seen in refineries and powerplants.
