The Biden administration is pushing to award grants and move funds to projects funded by signature infrastructure and climate measures before President-elect Donald Trump takes over.

Focus is on funding from the infrastructure law and the Inflation Reduction Act.

In a major boost for railroad infrastructure, the Federal Railroad Administration is awarding $2.4 billion in grants to 122 rail projects that aim to improve rail safety, resilience and efficiency.

The funds will go toward efforts at 125 airports, with most of the projects located at or around terminals and related facilities.

DOT awarded 44 grants after receiving 200 applications.

Presidential candidates Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump have provided little information so far about what their infrastructure priorities would be if elected.

Largest grant in the round is $49.6 million to Kailua/Kona International in Keahole, Hawaii. 

Aim of the grants is to build a "pipeline" of new bridge projects, FHWA Administrator Shailen Bhatt says.

The largest grant goes to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport for a terminal expansion project.

The grants are funded by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act’s Bridge Investment Program and will go to projects in 16 states.
