The Texas Dept. of Transportation will spend a record $85 billion on highway construction over the next ten years under the state’s 2023 Unified Transportation Plan.

Work was suspended on the project's cable-stayed portion based on unspecified safety concerns over the planned installation of some bridge structure elements.

The project is the first of three aimed at improving mobility and safety on I-35 through Austin.

A $1.6-billion project to revitalize the convergence of three major highways in Southern Tarrant County has been awarded to a joint-venture partnership of Kiewit Infrastructure South Co. and Austin Bridge & Road.
