Workers were rescued from a partially collapsed building in New Haven, Conn., on June 2, including two critically injured workers. 

Months before a six-story apartment building in Davenport, Iowa, partially collapsed May 28, a structural engineer advised the property owner that an unexpected void space had been discovered during repairs to a damaged area of the exterior brick wall.

In what the civil engineers gtroup termed "the most significant change" to the 7-22 standard's flood load provisions since the inception of ASCE 7. the new supplement ties flood hazard mitigation to a structure’s risk level, and sets the hazard area for most risk categories to the 500-year floodplain for determining flood loads.
