Industry leaders and lawmakers in Louisiana are eyeing infrastructure projects as the remedy for a coronavirus-plagued economy.

As numbers spike, Gov. Phil Murphy has to shut more projects, but exempts critical infrastructure, utility, medical, and emergency projects with stricter safety; fines of up to $1000 could be imposed.

Push comes as pandemic causes steepest 1-month decline in U.K. and Europe construction indexes since 2009 recession, says IHS Markit.

With need to curb virus spread and protect workers and residents, governors and mayors from New York to California enact tougher rules, and shut down projects.
