Located on Pittsburgh’s historic “Automobile Row,” where Model Ts were assembled, sold and serviced, the vacant Ford Motor plant was repurposed into a research facility.

A fast-tracked 18-month schedule brought this six-story, 258,000-sq-ft building from kickoff to substantial completion in March 2023.

Encompassing nearly 300,000 sq ft on a 70-acre site, the three-building aluminum remelt and extrusion complex allows scrap metal to be remelted into 24-ft-long billets ranging in diameter from 7 to 18 in.

To build the 32,000-sq-ft facility safely within an active rail yard, the team isolated the site with a permanent fence, gates and barriers.
