Plant on Schedule for Q4 Startup MACTEC Awarded $13.3-Million Contract from USMC at Camp LeJeune Turner Construction Co. announced it has been awarded a $120-million contract to manage the construction of Harrah’s Cherokee Hotel Tower III in Cherokee, N.C. The completion of the tower is scheduled for December 2010. This project is a 21-story, 532-room, 500,000-sq-ft hotel tower that will include 68 suites, 454 guest rooms and a skybridge connecting the facility to the two existing hotel towers.
The City of Miami Beach awarded the Lincoln Park design contract to Dutch urban design and landscape architectural firm West 8. Lincoln Park is the third and final component of Miami Beach’s City Center Redevelopment Project. The park will sit adjacent to a new campus for the New World Symphony designed by Frank Gehry, scheduled to open in January 2011. The project also includes a 520-space public parking garage with ground-level retail space, also designed by Gehry. An Aug. 13 agreement between state and Federal authorities resolves long-standing issues and promises to remove bureaucratic obstacles to the restoration of the Everglades in South Florida under the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP). The "master agreement" establishes uniform terms and conditions for the project partnership agreements under which the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the South Florida Water Management District will cooperate and share costs for the CERP projects. “The master agreement allows us to move forward on construction on any CERP project,” says Kenneth Ammon, the South Florida Water Management District’s deputy executive director for Everglades restoration.

Stellar Development was selected to construct a new classroom building and office addition at the Manatee School for the Arts, a public charter middle and high school in Palmetto. The project consists of an 8,470-sq-ft addition to the school’s office and administration areas, including renovating existing space to add a student art gallery and relocate the music classrooms. A 9,790-sq-ft classroom building will house the school’s music department, physical education classroom and exercise facility. Walton Construction Co. of Harahan, La., was recently awarded an additional $18.8-million contract to design and build a fourth barracks facility at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island, S.C. This third option, awarded by the Department of the Navy – Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southeast, brings the project’s total value to $78.4 million.
