The Architecture of Tilt-Up Manual 1st Edition released by The Tilt-Up Concrete Association ISBN: 0-9678499-8-5;130 pages; $145.00 This manual is the second part of a trilogy of resources on the design and construction of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a construction method in which concrete wall panels are cast on site and tilted into place. The content of this manual was developed by TCA with the guidance of leading design professionals with vast experience in the building method, as well as feedback received during recent design charettes hosted by the association. A general overview of the construction process is provided, as well
Slab-on-Ground Design Construction Recommendations Design of Post-Tensioned Slabs-on-Ground is the 3rd edition of this design manual. The manual focuses on geotechnical design parameters, which include extensive editorial revisions and clarification. All procedures are provided to guide the designer to the applicable design system and its limitations. This new technical guide is produced for qualified geotechnical and structural engineers for the design of two types of post-tensioned, ground-supported foundations: ribbed foundations and uniform thickness foundations. The federal government is allowing dirty diesel fuel at the pump longer than it had originally required. The extension applies to highway-grade diesel and expires on Oct. 15, 2006. Prior to Oct. 15, retail fuel may contain a "slightly higher" sulfur content than previously mandated, according to a recent announcement from the Environmental Protection Agency. The earlier retail deadline was Sept. 1. Hurricane hits along the refinery-rich Gulf Coast apparently did not contribute to the government's relaxation of the rule. The delay, claims EPA, is a response to oil-industry requests for more time to flush sulfur contaminants out of distribution
Backhoe Loader Same Hydraulic System as Excavators The new CBL40 is a compact backhoe loader powered by a 3-cylinder Tier II compliant 37.2-hp turbo-diesel engine. It has a digging depth of 10 ft, backhoe reach of 13 ft, 2 in. and a loader lift height of 9 ft, 6 in. The CBL40 has the same hydraulic system used in the manufacturers excavators. This provides a smooth, precise and speedy control in backhoe operation. In addition, the loader bucket is self leveling and is equipped with a standard quick coupler. Curious. Dealers eyed new turbocharger (top) and engine (bottom). (Photo by Tudor Hampton for ENR) Clean diesel engines are making considerable gains in fuel economy, but maintenance issues are still up in the air, equipment dealers say. Mack Trucks latest round of low-emission engines, available next year, are at least 2 to 3% more fuel-efficient than previous power trains. For construction work, where older, heavy-duty engines have a thirst for fuel, users may even see double-digit percent gains, the manufacturer claims. VIKNER The new MackPower series is the Allentown, Pa.-based vendors most-extensive engine rollout in 40 years. It is designed
