Local's former president and ex-business agent plead guilty to extortion in 2016 of nonunion construction crew working on a church project.

Two structural engineers, originally from Puerto Rico, mobilized a team to inspect houses, at no cost to owners, damaged in the island's Jan. 7 quake.

Howard Simpson, known for his engineering expertise in structural mechanics, died Jan. 23 at age 97. He was the last surviving founder of multidisciplinary consulting engineer Simpson Gumpertz & Heger.
