China Harbor Engineering Corp., has resumed work on the Chinese-funded $1.4 billion Colombo Port City project after Chinese and Sri Lankan officials moved to settle disputes.
The $1-billion cement plant joins a fleet of similar, Dangote Cement-owned plants that are either under construction or recently finished in Nigeria, Ethiopia, Zambia, Cameroon, Tanzania, Senegal and South Africa.
The contract includes a tunnel under the Nile river, five elevated stations and two at-grade stations. When complete, the project will increase Cairo's network to 100 km.
