John Michael Stroud STROUDwas promoted to president of J.B. Henderson Construction Co. in Albuquerque. He has been with the company for 24 years, first as a laborer and pipefitter, then moving up to estimator and project manager. Most recently, Stroud was the firm's Rio Rancho area manager. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of New Mexico. He has served as project manager on key projects including UNM's Pete and Nancy Domenici Hall and buildings for Los Alamos National Laboratory. A huge plot of rural land in eastern New Mexico could soon become a major power hub for the U.S. if a start-up merchant transmission company is successful in developing a nearly $2-billion project to interconnect the three main power grids in the U.S. The project, known as Tres Amigas, is also expected to boost construction of new transmission lines and wind and solar farms in N.M. and the Southwest. The plot of land, stretching along Roosevelt Street between 3rd and 4th streets, will finally be occupied after years of sitting empty in the center of a burgeoning arts district. The University of New Mexico will hold a series of town hall meetings next week to gather public input on a proposed $146-million hospital in Albuquerque. The 96-bed adult-care facility was put on hold on Sept. 18 to allow for more public input as some groups in the community have expressed concerns. With a unique ribbon-cutting ceremony, Arizona State University inaugurated its new $110-million Interdisciplinary Science and Technology IV research building on the Tempe, Ariz. campus last week.
