ENR Midwest is pleased to name Willis “Rick” Conner, CEO/partner of American Structurepoint, as its 2025 Legacy Award winner.

This awards program recognizes industry veterans with many years of experience and long lists of contributions to their profession and community. In choosing this year’s recipient, ENR editors weighed several criteria, including each nominee’s history of innovation, career highlights and an engagement within the industry and the surrounding community.

Conner joined American Structurepoint as an intern in 1971 and, under his leadership, the company’s revenue has grown dramatically and is projected to top $200 million in 2024.

The firm has increased from a dozen employees in the 1970s to more than 700, transforming from a local firm specializing in transportation projects into an AEC firm with 18 design centers across the country and with various disciplines launched during Conner’s tenure, including Architecture + Interiors, Traffic Engineering, Information Technology, Marketing Services, Planning + Economic Development and Program Management.

Named president of the firm in 1990, Conner has focused on developing a mix of public and private work, on fostering client relationships and marketing the firm’s engineering expertise.

He also mentors youth enrolled in DREAM Alive, an Indianapolis-based nonprofit serving at-risk urban youth in grades 7 through 12 to discover career paths that help them break the cycle of poverty.
