An independent jury selected 34 winners of ENR’s 2012 'Best Projects' competition in the Mid-Atlantic region, our annual program recognizing the region's best achievements in design and construction.

The winners were recognized for excellence in 16 categories, including Civil Works/Infrastructure, Cultural/Worship, Government/Public Building, Green, Health Care, Higher Education/Research, Industrial/Manufacturing, Interiors, K-12, Office, Renovation/Restoration, Residential/Hospitality, Retail/Mixed-Use, Small Project, Specialty Contracting, Sports/Entertainment and Transportation.

The projects will be honored in a special Mid-Atlantic edition of ENR in December and during an awards ceremony Dec. 11, 2012, in Baltimore, Md. In addition to honoring the firms who submitted the projects, all key team members will be recognized for their efforts.

The jury focused on those projects that overcame significant challenges; adopted innovative approaches; executed exceptional design and craftsmanship; and maintained safe sites. Jurors were allowed to award one Project of the Year per category and multiple Awards of Merit. The jurors, who represent architects, engineers and general contractors, are all active members of the local building community. They abstained from voting on any projects with which they are affiliated or have a conflict of interest.

All category winners advance to the national judging of ENR’s Best Projects competition. National award winners will be announced later this year and featured in a future edition of ENR.

In addition to the category winners, an overall Best Project in the Mid-Atlantic region was also selected and will be announced at the awards ceremony in Baltimore and in the December special edition of ENR magazine.
