The 2019 ENR MidAtlantic Specialty Contractor of the Year, as selected by ENR’s editors, is C3M Power Systems LLC.
C3M was recognized at ENR MidAtlantic’s Nov. 5 Best Project’s event in Baltimore and featured in the December issue of ENR MidAtlantic.
The December issue will also feature the entire list of the top-ranked specialty contractors based on 2018 revenue. C3M ranked No. 18 on last year’s survey with $30.20 million in regional revenue.
Based in Capitol Heights, Md., the full-service electrical contractor focused on infrastructure-related projects is a wholly owned subsidiary of the $4 billion-per-year Clark Construction Group. With construction, rehabilitation and maintenance capabilities, C3M works for railways, airports, highways and utilities nationwide.
The majority of the firm’s work stems from departments of transportation, transit agencies, airports, water and wastewater authorities and other similar organizations that are building significant new assets or rehabilitating existing ones. C3M says it has capitalized on a strong regional market for renovating or expanding existing, aging infrastructure to maintain a state of good repair and preserve critically important public investments.
The firm recently won its largest project to date, a $69-million rehabilitation of electrical substations for the Washington, D.C. region’s Metro system. In 2018, the firm completed a diverse array of projects in the MidAtlantic, including a multi-year modernization of the Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system at West Virginia University in Morgantown, W. Va.
Ongoing work includes the I-395 Express Lanes project in Northern Virginia and rehabilitation of the train control system for the light rail transit system in Pittsburgh.
The firm supports several charitable organizations as well as local community events, including contributing funds to multiple college scholarship programs, packing toiletry kits for residents of a women’s shelter in Washington, D.C. and contributing both funding and time to assist a therapeutic horseback riding program in Northern Virginia with the expansion of their facility.
