The big cranes competing for top billing against the Las Vegas skyline are an announcement to local residents and casual visitors, anyway, that construction is back. The once-every-three-year event is almost a heartwarming reminder of how deeply integrated with the economy and culture the construction industry is.

Show set-up days have the atmosphere of a county fair in the hours before the opening, multiplied a thousand times. Everybody who will be decked out in company shirts and hats and sparkling with enthusiasm when the doors open at 9 a.m. Tuesday can be found in jeans and t-shirts cracking open packing crates and setting up displays over the acres and acres of show space in every available hour before. 

It makes you wonder how they will ever be ready at showtime, but we know, as always before, they will be.

The excitement is building.
