This year’s Vegas CONEXPO-CON/AGG was the first I’ve attended, and it was stuffed with giant trucks and machines like a Construction Cornucopia. There was too much to see, and too many announcements to record.
I did end up swinging by Volvo Groups' press conferences:
The company’s President and CEO Olof Persson claims Volvo will spend $100M in product and production expansion at its North American facilities this year, and Mack Trucks (part of the Volvo Group) revealed a medium heavy-duty version of its Granite model, with a 9-liter 345 HP engine. Curtis Dorwart Mack’s vocational marketing product manager says the truck is ideal to be used as a dump truck, boost-a-load mixer or snowplow. But it looks like you could just as well use it to run through your neighbor's house.
Among myriad updates Mack also displayed the first Mack AC truck ever built, which the press release said earned Mack the nickname “Bulldog” by British soldiers in WWI.
If you missed this triennial show, then you can watch our ConExpo videos for the next three years to hold you over.
