For the 11th year of its Global Best Projects competition, ENR invited industry veterans to examine and analyze safety performance, innovations, teamwork and overcoming design and construction challenges. A record number of entries from around the world, representing a variety of sectors, were received for the program, which recognizes project teams behind outstanding recently completed design and construction efforts, located anywhere.
Winners this year include 31 projects in 23 different nations on every continent except Antarctica. These outstanding examples show the risks, rewards and hurdles overcome when designing and building internationally. All selected projects will be spotlighted in more detail in the Dec. 11 issue of ENR. In addition, that special issue will name the Global Best Project winner that has earned the coveted title of 2023 Global Project of the Year.
No project submitted could participate if it had any construction-related fatalities, and workn had to be complete between January 2022 and May 2023.
Contest judges are Michael Cannon at KHS&S Contractors, Joe Cazares of Jacobs, Chris Heger, retired from OAC, Lucas Lacitou with Shikun & Binui Concessions USA Inc., Tim McManus with TCMcManus Consulting, Patrick Natale of the United Engineering Foundation, William O'Donnell at DeSimone Consulting Engineers, Irena Savakova from Leo A Daly, Fernando Vara at ACCIONA and David White with Watercare Services Ltd.
Any judge with a conflict of interest in any particular category was assigned to a different category. The panel had discretion to designate top selections as Global Best Projects winners in a variety of categories, and could choose Award of Merit winners as warranted. Learn more about the judges in the Dec. 11 issue of ENR.
This year, everyone worldwide has a chance to learn more about these global construction achievements and connect with teams behind the projects at ENR's virtual awards event. Best of all, there is no fee to attend. To learn more about the Global Best Projects awards presentation on Dec. 19, please visit www.enr.com/global-best-projects or directly register for free here.
