For a dozen years, ENR's Global Best Projects competition has invited industry experts to review a broad pool of entries from around the world and in a variety of sectors to identify the teams behind outstanding design and construction efforts of the past year.
For 2024, these judges examined and analyzed the safety performance, innovations, teamwork and excellence of 120 projects—the most entries ENR has ever received.
From these, 35 projects located in 19 countries have been selected as the most outstanding—illustrating the risks, rewards and hurdles overcome when designing and building internationally—and will be spotlighted in more detail in the Dec. 16 issue of ENR. That special issue also will name one project that has earned the coveted title of Global Project of the Year.
Judging the contest were Geno Armstrong with KPMG, Michael Cannon at KHS&S Contractors, Ginger Evans of Tower Consulting, Lucas Lacitou with Shikun & Binui Concessions USA Inc., Jon Magnusson at MKA, Tim McManus of Columbia University Graduate School of Engineering, Patrick Natale at United Engineering Foundation, Irena Savakova from Leo A Daly, Hans Van Winkle of Hans Van Winkle Consulting and David White with Jacobs. The panel had discretion to designate top selections as Global Best Projects winners in a variety of categories, and could choose Award of Merit winners as warranted. Any judge with a conflict of interest in any particular category was assigned to a different one. To be eligible, an entry's construction had to be complete between January 2023 and May 2024 and could not have a construction-related fataliy..
This year, everyone worldwide has a chance to celebrate these global construction achievements at ENR's no-fee virtual Global Best Projects awards event presentation on December 19.
