Each year, ENR Southeast ranks the largest projects to start construction during the previous year in the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas and Tennessee, as well as Puerto Rico. This year, of course, we're looking back at 2020, a year that was challenging for everyone, including the construction industry as contractors and design firms suffered through an untold number of project delays and cancellations. Even so, many more construction projects kept moving forward, as we'll see with this year's Top Starts ranking. 

For this research-based ranking, ENR Southeast uses a variety of sources, including information from Dodge Data & Analytics, as well as news reports from Engineering News-Record and other media publications. Additionally, we also reach out to contractors and design firms active in the Southeast region for information about their largest Southeast projects to start construction during 2020. With that in mind, if your firm started construction last year on any projects with an overall cost of at least $100 million, please email me at judys@enr.com with details.

We’ll continue to update the Top Starts ranking as we learn about more projects. The final Top Starts ranking will publish with the March 1 print edition of ENR Southeast.
