Sturgeon Electric Co. Inc., Henderson, Colo., has been selected by ENR Mountain States magazine as Specialty Contractor of the Year for 2022. A subsidiary of MYR Group Inc., the contractor tops the list of the region’s specialty firms based on 2021 revenue. That ranking, and the story about Sturgeon Electric, will appear in the October issue of ENR Mountain States.
Sturgeon is undergoing a company-wide digital transformation that involves adopting new technology, centralizing data, improving security and optimizing processes to enhance efficiency and accessibility. Within the last few years, Sturgeon has embraced technologies such as drones, 3D imaging and the use of VR applications.
The contractor has also taken key steps to reduce the firm’s carbon footprint by using responsible sourcing of materials whenever possible; salvaging, reusing and recycling excess material on projects; and exercising measures throughout its operations to minimize environmental impacts. Internal green initiatives include recycling programs, LED lighting, occupancy sensors and efficient paper consumption measures.
In the community, Sturgeon contributes to initiatives that support health, youth, education and veterans. The firm donated $130,000 in 2021 to various charities in addition to hundreds of thousands of dollars in pro-bono electrical construction work and volunteer hours.
Sturgeon’s recent projects include the Raghorn EPC Project for the Idaho National Laboratory and the Central I-70 Corridor expansion project, as well as ongoing work for Xcel Energy and Denver International Airport.
