Officials say KLF Enterprises knew that a hospital in Illinois contained asbestos, but did not take required precautions when razing it. 

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has issued a final rule prohibiting ongoing uses of chrysotile asbestos, the only known form of asbestos currently imported, processed or distributed for use in the U.S.

U.S. General Services Administration estimates it has more than $2 billion in unfunded environmental liabilities, with asbestos-related cleanups accounting for $1.6 billion of the total.
