A decommissioned municipal reservoir provided not only an ideal location for a new 4.25-acre park with views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay, but also an opportunity to ease demand on the city’s water supply.
Unity Park, Greenville’s newest, is bringing new life and vitality to an underutilized space around the Reedy River with four playgrounds, 4,100-sq-ft splash pad, green spaces, architecturally and aesthetically significant picnic shelters and 10,000-sq-ft welcome center and flexible event space.
This project—representing a collaborative effort between The Trust for Public Land, the Atlanta Dept. of Parks and Recreation, the city’s Dept. of Watershed Management and the local community—reinvigorates the once-bustling Vine City neighborhood, which had become one of Atlanta’s most distressed communities and a victim of persistent flooding.
This facility for a growing city west of Phoenix includes a 3.5-acre fishing and irrigation lake, 21 acres of sports turf and other recreational features.
