With an aging existing park with disparate elements that were not being used to their fullest potential, the city of Tempe, Ariz., moved to create a community park with this $11.5-million project, which features revamped recreation and aquatic programs.

A 45-ft-tall, 385-ft-long three-span bridge over the Central Arizona Project (CAP) Canal in North Buckeye provides a new way to cross the waterway and increases access for the local community.

On the Avondale Civic Center campus, the two-story, 30,000-sq-ft facility comprises a conference center, which opens to a large plaza for activities in the cooler winter months; the Discover Avondale visitor center; gift shop; and offices for the mayor, council and other city staff.
