Grants go to 80 road, bridge, transit and other projects to improve their ability to withstand floods, rising seas and other harmful effects of climate change in 37 states, the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands.
If spending levels contained in House Republicans’ fiscal 2024 transportation appropriations bill become law, the port grant program could face cuts of more than 60%.
The grants went to projects in 12 states. U.S. DOT says it received applications totaling more than $10 billion, far more than the approximately $300 million it had available.
